As of today’s date, Sunday December 10th 2023, I am not a published author. I’m a newbie, a no one, a novice to self-publishing. I am stumbling through the process of transforming crazy thoughts into words on a page.
I started writing my debut novel, The Displaced, when I was completing my masters program through SNHU online. The first 35k words (give or take) were submitted for my thesis. I am just now finishing my novel– though with final edits and the formatting and the uploading process, it probably won’t be done until 2024.
So why bother reading on?
Because we all have to start somewhere. And, sometimes going through the process completely green is the way to do it.
I hope to not only capture different stages of the process, but I want to document things that go right, and things that go oh-so-wrong so that I can share that unfiltered information with my fellow self-publishing newbies. I also hope I remember just enough of my online marketing days so that these droplets of wisdom might find another writer looking to blaze their own path, because I now know how overwhelming the process is at times.
Not only do I want to welcome you to my site and my blog, but welcome you to the process of self-publishing. Some see it as “cheating,” some see it as “taking the easy way out,” but self-publishing your novel is definitely not for the faint of heart.
No one is going to roll out the red carpet for you. No one is going to keep on top of you to make sure you’re hitting word count milestones. And, in many cases, you won’t have anyone notice if you throw in the towel. In this case, you have to be your own support and accountability system.
Are you ready?
